WildFox Fall 2015 - La Dolce Vita

Gelato! Pasta! Italia! The Los Angeles-based knitwear brand Wildfox Couture took us all on a getaway to Italy for their Fall 2015 presentation. Retro slogans like "Kiss Me I'm Italian" and "Italians Do It Better" were printed on over-sized sweaters. The location for the event was set in the classic restaurant in Little Italy, Il Cortile. The run of show program for the different looks was set up in a menu. The collections were set up into "Pastel Gelato Girls" "Vineyard Girls" and "Restaurant Girls". With Wildfox Couture having a vintage slant, you could see the pretty red gingham prints...

#WMCFW: Hilary MacMillan Fall 2015

Another family affair, this time in Toronto. Canadian designer Hilary MacMillan's relatively new fashion label is known for its mix of luxurious fabrics and a signature print she develops every season. For fall 2015, she collaborated with members of her family to create a darker, rose and skeleton print. The color palette was cream, black, bright and dark blood red. While it isn't obvious, the muse behind this season's collection was the Mexican holiday of Day of the Dead. The fashion show combined satins and leather, silk and knits. There were a lot of separates with updated proportions....

Mister Triple X at Art Hearts Fashion Fall 2015

Who doesn't like a little kink and fetish to heat up the NY Fashion Week runway?  Mr. Triple X  opened the Art Hearts Fashion Show with a collection body conscious separates for both men and women that were accented with chains and leather straps. The signature pieces were more accessories that could be worn alone for a sexy club (or night in) look or to add some edge to more traditional fashion ensembles. My friends and family were most grateful for the plentiful eye candy of the male models. The label is designed by Erik Rosete. He intended his collection to be...

Desigual Fall 2015 With Chantelle Brown Young

Fashion should have something for everyone. Spanish label Desigual made a statement on their fall 2015 runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week with a model lineup that represented a broad range of looks. Their new spokesmodel Chantelle Brown Young opened the show. She was originally scouted by fan Tyra Banks to compete in America's Next Top Model. She stood out for her unique skin patterns as a result of a condition called vitiligo. While Chantelle was teased as a child, she has the last laugh from the end of top runways this season for New York Fashion Week. She was chosen to represent Desigual...

MONGOL by Bayarmaa Bayarkhuu Fall 2015 Mongolian Fashion

Is the nomad the biggest trend of 2015? Bayarmaa Bayarkhuu is a relative newcomer to the New York Fashion Week scene. The designer launched the brand ten years ago and brought MONGOL from Ulaanbaatar to Lincoln Center. While Asian manufacturing and Asian designers have long been a major influence over the fashion industry, only in recent seasons have I seen Mongolian fashion as a theme. THEIA referenced Mongolian nomads in their bridal collection; Anna Sui has worked in those influences into their bohemian vibe. Mongolian designer Katya Zol brought dance and a gorgeous collection in...

Libertine Fall 2015 - Fur and Pop Art

Contemporary art meets the runway at Johnson Hartig’s fall 2015 fashion show. He has been known to collaborate with the leading modern artists of our time like Damien Hirst, but also working design projects in mass market for Target and Converse.  Libertine’s Johnson Hartig didn't resist temptation. He pursued it. Ok, so that’s a poor paraphrase of the tagline from the 2004 film The Libertine. Looking at the designer’s social media accounts, he’s often pursuing adventures across the world. He looks like he is more of a vagabond artist than your traditional apparel entrepreneur....

Byron Lars Fall 2015 Look Book

Divine design. The fall 2015 collection of Byron Lars did not have a specific concept at the beginning of the development. Byron had a goal of adding in pieces to his line that were more relaxed, comfortable enough for a woman to throw on quickly for work or home. He started with his wall of trims, textures, and colors and let the collection grow organically. I was on hand assisting in the lookbook photo shoot and snapped a few pics of my own to show you. Byron Lars is a master of structured stretchy sexy: The result is one of my favorite collections ever. You have to remember that each...

Men's and Women's Fragrance Launches for Spring

Someone smells good. I was able to enjoy several fragrance launches in the last month to coincide with fashion week events. Tommy Bahama unveiled both a men's and women's Island Life fragrance at an intimate event that took us out of the winter and gave us the beach. They had a paddle boarding simulator for us snow-bound fans to practice surfboard skills. A sand castle artist created fanciful structures to perch the fragrances on top of. Guests sipped orchid topped fruity rum drinks. Fellow writers & my Aussie peep Brian all agreed that the Tommy Bahama Island Life for Him cologne...

Idan Cohen Fall 2015 (and wedding!)

On February 14th, fashion designer Idan Cohen got married to his partner just before their fashion show at New York Fashion Week. The couple lives and works in Tel Aviv, Israel. The atmosphere was festive as the show started with the announcement of the wedding. What an accomplishment to prepare a show, perform a ceremony, perform a show, and all in such a short time! The inspiration for this Fall 2015 collection was the woman's body and her power. The first model appeared on the runway like a blue mermaid and then a black mermaid. Delicate pearls embroidered as an embellishment to a nude back...

Blogger Love: Fashion's Shades of Gray

Fashion month has come and gone. What have we learned? IFB bloggers found celebrations of motherhood, diversity, and technology, as well as fear of empty spaces (!) on the runway. OK maybe that last one's not a celebration, but interesting nonetheless. We also celebrated our amazing mothers, color trends for spring, wedding inspiration, and more. ETSY Collaboration With American Museum of Natural History

The design industry is all about collaborations between brands. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of exploring the collaboration from the American Museum of Natural History with 22 independent designers from Etsy.  Indie designers from Etsy created unique pieces for the museum The designers specialized in a broad range of mediums. They were chosen for their work that was inspired by natural history. Many of the creators designed a unique item for the collection inspired by a an element of the institution. Jason Lynch of Smidge Co. made gorgeous 3D cards inspired by dinosaur fossils. Molly...

Tadashi Shoji Fall 2015

It was all about celebrating the beauty of flight for Tadashi Shoji's Fall 2015 collection. He expressed his love of flight with two running themes throughout the show. Of course, he did this in the most gorgeous way possible at New York Fashion Week.  The first theme was interpreted through the mechanics of airplanes. While it was not obvious, the lovely embellishments of beaded circles and brocade lace represented the gears of an plane. This technique was used to accent necklines, straps, and waistbands or as engineered embroidery on a bodice or as a full-length gown. The second...

Kate Spade Fall 2015

Have you met the Fantastic Mr. Fox? Kate Spade's Fall 2015 collection was styled in the quirky chic aesthetic that I  love film director Wes Anderson for. The overall presentation had rustic elements in wool plaid and fur clutch handbags. There was an artsy element in the Roald Dahl inspired sketches along the walls and whimsical colour palettes. There were Kate Spade's signature feminine (though not girly) accessories of hats and gloves with the candy box handbags. The larger carryall purses were either crocodile embossed leather or color blocked. The starring Mr. Fox was featured...

Theia Fall 2015 - Exclusive Studio Visit

I had the honor of visiting designer Don O'Neill to preview the THEIA Fall 2015 collection before much of the world. You can be embedded in the photographer's pit, interview backstage, but nothing lets you see a designer's vision as being in their design studio as they work on the collection itself. Visiting the design space itself, you can see Don's design process. He started with contemporary Irish furniture designer Joseph Walsh. Specifically, his Lumenoria II collection. Walsh's signature aesthetic are his flowing, sinewy organic lines an naturalistic colors....
