Embellished Emmy 2012 Fashion

Television's finest came out to be awarded for their work at the Emmy Awards last night.  Winning accolades for Emmy fashion is as important (if not more) for many of the stars walking the red carpet.

As always, as an embroidery designer, I am choosing my favorites for their use of embellishment...

Ginnifer Goodwin was a stunner in a dimensional tangerine embellished gown from Monique Lhuillier (who I love for her embroideries, including the ones she used of mine of course).  Shannon Marie Woodward, of Raising Hope looked elegant in a gold beaded bodice gown from Gabriela Candela.

Blue was clearly a favorite last night.  Sofia Vergara was sexy as hell in Zuhair Murad, who knows how to bead in patterns that really bring out the assets of the va-va-voom ladies.  Sarah Paulson wore a beautifully embroidered gown by Reem Acra.  Nicole Kidman surprised some fashion police wearing a fashion forward angel wing embroidered column by Antonio Berardi.

Hayden Panettiere was every bit the diva in an embroidered Marchesa gown overlaid with transparent. Lucy Liu was a sexy gladiator in a heavy mirrored Versace gown and Veep's Anna Chlumsky was gorgeous in a beaded lace dress by Christian Siriano.

Fashion Week Problems...Solved!

When you have a fashion emergency, do you call the fashion police? No.  Kmart Fashion has gathered a concierge service during NY Fashion Week to act as your EMT for the crises that may come up.

Last week, the mega retailer launched their Fashion Week Problems service with a special edition tee by the Downtown t-shirt label Sophomore NYC.  The big graphic of a broken-heeled stiletto is symbolic of the many mishaps a fashionista might encounter during the hectic week of shows and events.

This event also gave us a chance to check out their highly fashionable in-store labels like Glo, LYS and Sofia Vergara’s signature collection.  I was very impressed at the amount of style and variety represented there.  The Sofia Vergara collection had terrific handbags, very on-trend with sophisticated styling.  I am constantly amazed what mass retailers like K-mart can achieve on a limited price point.

In a fun, but highly appreciated campaign, bloggers and fashion influencers can use Twitter to call out for help with the hashtag #fashionweekproblems with their emergency.  Kmart’s helpers will then rush out in real time to aid with ripped tights, hair troubles, tissues, moisturizer needs, etc.

Knowing myself, I will likely need all of the above.  I’m not sure how they will aid in the broken heel department, unless they have a cobbler on staff, but I can’t wait to see them in action.  Bloggers like me could preemptively put together their own survival kit (even better than my original) at the event, filling up an eco-tote with essentials before the shows start.

To paraphrase an old Girl Scout motto (early uniform fetish reference), the best defense in a fashion emergency is to “Be Prepared”.

Top Trends of the Golden Globes Red Carpet

It was observed by almost every interviewer...Black was the top color of the evening.  The ladies of E! Network were clad in figure-flattering Zac Posen, as was Eva Longoria.  Halle Berry in a short/long number in Nina Ricci.  Piper Perabo wore a glamorous Oscar de la Renta.

The second most popular color was a deep dark green.  Angelina Jolie in wore a glittering Versace gown, Catherine Zeta-Jones was glowing next to healthy hubby Michael Douglas in her Monique Lhuillier gown.  Elizabeth Moss wore a custom-created Donna Karan gown.  Black Swan's Mila Kunis made other ladies green with envy in her Vera Wang.

For those who wanted to highlight their own "Golden Globes", red was the va-va-voom gown of choice.  Christina Hendricks of Mad Men reminded of the definition of 'hourglass' in a Romana Keveza silk crepe dress.  Castmate January Jones had her assets suspended in anti-gravity in a bandage-like Versace gown.  Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang got the most cat calls from the male foreign press...

For the most eccentric (and taking the pressure off all the insecure starlets) red carpet ensemble, the award went to Helena Bonham Carter.  I was ecstatic that someone was secure enough to wear something truly original.  She wore a sculpted Vivienne Westwood gown of multiple colors and black tulle.  She wore a red shoe and a green shoe in a move that laughed in the face of the fashion police.
