NY Bridal Week: Angel Sanchez's Literary Brides

I like to imagine the Angel Sanchez spring 2017 bride as a modern Belle from Beauty and the Beast. She is brainy, smart, feminine with her nose in a book.

The designer extended some his concepts from NY Fashion week into his bridal looks. There were sharp, architectural cuts and origami-like pleats. There were delicate three-dimensional flowers embroidered onto several looks. There were elongated draped updates to the pouf skirt which was quite romantic. 

I love that Angel Sanchez takes classic wedding style ideas and cuts it up into a modern interpretation of it for today's bride. Here's hoping the groom is no beast!

Angel Sanchez Spring 2016

Looking for some tropical inspiration for your winter getaway? Angel Sanchez designed his spring 2016 collection around the Carribean 'Cayega'. We know it as the hibiscus flower. His runway for NY Fashion Week was blooming all over with them.

Sanchez took the vibrant hues of fuschia, orange and citrus yellow silk and paired them with grassy greens and neutrals of black and white. The motif of the hibiscus flower was played out in within the collection in every way you can imagine. The one print was of a beautiful painted red hibiscus against a white background. There were dresses that where draped like a flower in literal or more abstract shapes,

There were floral fabric, leather or acrylic appliques for a more contemporary interpretation. You can always wear the elegant black ensembles. The white outfits make great modern bridal looks, especially for a beach wedding. However, the ultra-vivid ballgowns? That's how your make an entrance! Accessories included big floral applique mules that look great in a contrast hue.

Angel Sanchez has never been afraid of color. I also love how he mixes traditional evening wear dressing with super-contemporary details to keep his collection fresh. The fashion show attracted everyone from The Walking Dead's Mercedes Masohn to opera singer Renee Fleming. If this runway doesn't inspire you to take a vacation, you deserve to stay home.

Angel Sanchez Spring 2015

Angel Sanchez is best known for his knock- out evening dresses and beautiful bridal gown collections.  His collection was light and colorful, filled with stylish dresses and separates perfect for day to evening social occasions and balmy summer nights. 

The inspiration and color palette of the collection was light and the colors in the sky. Light blue, pink, yellow, and white were the dominant colors in the collection, along with exotic floral prints. Sanchez chose a gorgeous double-faced canvas in pink that resembled Radiant Orchid, the 2014 color of the year from Pantone. Bright yellow piping on seams and unusual closures accentuated solid color garments. Unexpected cutouts, piping, and embroidery added texture and versatility to the garments and the collection.

With so many standouts in this collection, I found it challenging to choose my favorites. There was the three piece outfit of pink Faille coat, bandeau top, and double faced canvas shorts. I loved the crepe gown, in a bright citron color, with cutouts and high front slits. One of Sanchez's signature evening gowns; an embroidered organza gown with piping in citron yellow was stunning.

There was a lot of wearable tech at NY Fashion Week this season, with technology disguised in accessories.  At this show, the fashion accessories looked like tech components.  The bright neon citron color was seen in sculptured necklaces and bracelet cuffs.  The tech fabric of neoprene was also integrated into more classically tailored evening wear.

Angel Sanchez does it again and delivers a wearable collection of feminine & elegant clothes...perfect for the modern woman.

Angel Sanchez Fall 2014

"Dark Innocence" the fall 2014 collection by Angel Sanchez was inspired by women who appear demure to outside world, but pray for divine power to control their forbidden dark desires.

The result was a collection of modern silhouettes with sharp lines and leather details that verged on futuristic at times. The powerful yet sophisticated collection was anything but demure.

The collection opened with a series of edgy designs in a dark color palette of black with touches of gunmetal. Leather paneling, pleating, and details added texture and interest to the all black ensembles. A micro pleated leather shift dress shined like liquid metal on the catwalk. The darkness of the collection gave way to a lighter palette of gold organza, lurex tweed, emerald and sapphire jewel tones, and white wool crepe.

Details like high cut geometric necklines, open backs, and color-blocked seams, gave the collection by Angel Sanchez its signature futuristic style. A-line tops with were paired with tailored trousers for day to evening looks, and capes attached to dresses and gowns added drama to the collection.

NY FASHION WEEK: Fall 2014 Sketchbook Preview

So what is in store for us in the next 10 days for New York Fashion Week?  A quick survey of my designer colleagues shows that everyone is working their butts off to put together an amazing collection in time for the show.

I love looking at fashion sketches as they show more of a designer's creative process than just how pretty the garment will look on the model.

Desigual's Manel Jadraque found his muse in the magic and curiosities that are hidden within a city.  Son Jung Wan wanted to express emotions in colors like abstract artist Mark Rothko.

Byron Lars is all about seaming and shape in his mad dash party of sketches in the top left.

Angel Sanchez is exploring the duality, quoting Oscar Wilde,  "Every Saint has a past, and every sinner has a future."

Zang Toi was masterfully organizing his lineup this week.  The theme promises to be a glamorous interpretation of 1930's glamour mixing the Orient in Paris.

Don O'Neill of Theia showed some elegant ladies showing their wild side with a pretty leopard print in pre-fall.  The sneak peeks he has allowed us to see for fall 2014 proper are some ritzy gold  deco sequin embroidery and fabulous frocks to come.
