TORONTO FASHION WEEK: Pavoni Fall 2013

The big finale show of Toronto Fashion Week was a grand one.  Pavoni showed the most elaborate red-carpet worthy gowns with yards and yards of fabric, delicate embroidery and beautiful silhouettes.

Creative directors Mike Derderian and Gianni Falcone themed this season as "L’Age D’Or” or The Golden Era of romance and elegance.  Silk chiffons, silk taffetas and lace were in abundance in big trumpet hems and ballgowns of dramatic high-low hems.  I would love to see some of the pale peach, grey and silver/white dresses going down the aisle as alternative bridal fashion.

This label has already been picked up by celebrities like Halle Berry.  Singer Mariah Carey chose this collection to outfit her Australian concert tour.  This is Canada's star luxury label.  Look after look was a stunner on this catwalk, it really made you wish for an encore.

Hot Flavors - Cool Style

red fur runway
Can you believe it is November? For fall 2012 fashion trends, it means it is time to turn up the heat!  Designers for New York Fashion Week brought out a palette of fiery colors.  Designers also kept you cozy with the big fuzzy trend of using fur.

This has been the year of the Girl on Fire.  It only seems appropriate that a hot color palette for fall ignites your wardrobe.  How gorgeous are the flame-like silk prints of Theia’s gown and Monique Lhuillier’s day dress?  Anna Sui brings out the fiery hues in different patterns while Pavoni, Josie Natori and Monique Lhuillier create heated silhouettes from flared chiffon, silk crepe or shiny leather

Fur can be super luxurious if you have the budget.  If you don’t, accessories make a dramatic statement, like a big fur hat or shrug from Pamella Roland.  Do certain fashion choices weight on your conscience?  It doesn’t have to be real fur to rock this trend.  Designers Betsey Johnson and BCBG Max Azria strike a dramatic look without harming animals.  The quality and colors of faux fur are fantastic these days when accenting a fabulous coat.  Of course, a great furry texture works too.  Creating volume with loops, fringe or even feathers can pimp out the most basic silhouette.  Anna Sui’s great fall coats and sweaters make the artsy crafty technique work very well.

TORONTO FASHION WEEK: Pavoni Fall 2012

Red carpet glamour came down the runway at David Pecault Square Monday.  The beautifully beaded gowns had intricate pleating or ruffles. The color palette was simple.  Rich dark reds, sexy black, champagne, ivory and platinum.  These dress masterpieces rival any Haute Couture catwalk in Paris, counting celebrities like Shaikira and Katy Perry as fans.

The designer duo, Gianna Falcone and Mike Derderian were childhood BFFs from Montreal.  They have already sold to clients all over Europe and the Middle East.  However, this is the first time the designers are showing in their home country.  The irony is they have yet to find a Canadian store to carry them.  While that oversight should quickly be rectified, for now it is clearly their loss.
