EMMYs Red Carpet Embroidery

Happy Emmy Awards night. I wish I could say the red carpet fashion bored me because everyone looked so good, but I can't. The stars took chances, wore bold looks and still all looked gorgeous. Of course, being partial to embellishment design, I am only giving my shout-outs to the best embroidered gowns of the evening.

It's pretty much a given that anyone who wears Zuhair Murad wins the red carpet game. The silhouettes are sculpted to make you look like an Amazon Goddess. The beading is always engineered to enhance that. Game of Throne's Lena Headey wore a dramatic oxblood gown that looked fierce like Queen Cersei of Hollywood 2015. Bam! Meanwhile, Joanna Newsom wore a softer sweet Delpozo dress that took the art of embroidery literally. Her bodice actually looked like a luxe needlepoint frame with embroidery being worked on. The pretty peach pink fit her sweet smile.

Based on my Twitter feed, Kerry Washington won the red carpet with her stunning platinum dress pulled straight from Marc Jacob's spring 2016 runway. It looks like sculpted, jeweled chainmail (though I hope it was more comfortable than that.) Jamie Alexander wore a gorgeous Armani Prive gown that looked like a waterfall of shimmering beads and sequins. I love how the colors look like they are spilling into each other along the curves of her body. Of course, Sofia Vergara always knows how to knock out the crowd with a gown that emphasizes her hourglass shape. The gold St. John dress was tailored perfectly to her body with waves of jeweled beading that echoed her curves.

The Emmy Awards red carpet fashion was the best show of the night! Ok, now who actually won the trophies?

Best of Emmy's Red Carpet - The Angels

The most talented actresses of the small screen were celebrated at the 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.  The hottest trend on the red carpet? Bright glittering angels in platinum and white.

As a curvy girl myself, I love seeing gowns that sculpt and highlight great curves in an unusual way.  Kate Mara's J. Mendel gown had multi-directional shirring along with shaped, semi-sheer layers to reveal the leg in a soft way.  Also loved the chunky beading on the top.  Sofia Vergara's hourglass figure is always epic on the red carpet.  Roberto Cavalli's gown not only hugged her body, but the silver embroidered lines traced each sexy shape even more.  Danielle Brooks of Orange is the New Black wore a Nathaniel Paul gown with a great circle lace bodice.  It contrasted beautifully against her skin.  The asymmetrical skirt with high leg slit was incredibly flattering.

I loved these shimmering dresses.  Amy Poehler was stunning in THEIA's silver beaded gown.  Hayden Pannetiere made every Mom I know jealous in a starburst embroidered gown by Lorena Sarbu.  Taylor Schilling's halter gown had beautiful beaded lines by Zuhair Murad.

Lucy Liu's gown from Zac Posen pulled shirring details in several directions to frame her body.  Julianna Hough's strapless dress was a contemporary take on the retro big bow dress by DSquared.  Dascha Polanco was in full diva mode in a ballgown by Johanna Johnson.

Emmy Embroidery Red Carpet Stars

Ah yes, my round-up of the best embroidery design from the Emmys Red Carpet.  My first group are my picks for pure glamour.  Connie Britton wore Naeem Khan's regal silk velvet and gold embroidery from the Fall 2013 collection that I loved from the runway.  She went from Diva to Queen the minute she stepped on the carpet.  Heidi Klum was stunning in Versace's "pomegranate" beaded dress.  The seams, beaded style lines and patterns added even more oomph to her formidable shape than she could possibly need.  Julianne Hough's pastel Jenny Packham dress was very revealing, but the dainty all over embroidery still kept it elegant with a classic Hollywood feel.

This group had the best use of embroidered details.  Amy Poehler's had these great embroidered fringed pockets on her dress by Brian Rennie for Basler.  My girl-crush Mindy Kaling wore a gorgeous plus face framing beaded neckline by Georges Chakra.  Katrina Bowden had a lovely jeweled waist detail on her gown from Badgley Mischka.

I dubbed this group my bride-alternatives.  I'm not saying they look like wedding dresses, but would look great for any bride seeking an unusual, but glam gown for walking down the aisle.  Kerry Washington's Marchesa dress had big, appliqued flowers embroidered in an organic pattern.  Julia Louis-Dreyfuss's beaded column by Monique Lhuillier made her tiny frame look statuesque.  Claire Dane's beaded white dress from Armani Prive was like an icy princess fantasy that was feminine yet modern.
