Adam Spring 2012

Transparency and pastels.  A few black and white prints thrown in.  Adam Lippes' collection for Spring 2012 was like finding a luxe box of licorice all-sorts.  The sweet pinks and lavender colors were never too sugary as they were used in sleek, well cut silhouettes of pants and jackets.  The dresses were feminine and smart, but never frivolous.  This is a grown-up's version of spring dressing.

Adam has loyal following by the young and chic of the city because the designer produces effortless sportswear for the lifestyle.  According to the website, the brand is inspired by "real women" as opposed to celebrities.  That seems like a no-brainer concept for success, yet it is also a rare one...

NY Fashion Week: Adam Lippes Fall 2011

Nerds rule! Ok, that's a stretch at fashion week, but the intellectual role model is making gains on the supermodel this season.  At many fashion shows for fall, the smart girls with glasses have been up and the runway, proving substance is not exclusive of style.

Adam Lippes was inspired by a small exhibit at the National Museum of the American Indian in Lower Manhattan.  While the motifs were not immediately apparent, very pretty prints and occasional blanket silhouettes may have been the result.  The other looks were put-together and preppy, some 1970's thrown in. Materials included plaids, lace, mohair and feathers.  The color palette was a deep cobalt blue, rich claret, grey, gold and black.  Accessories included glasses and cozy knit caps.

WWD at 100 Exhibit

Across the street from Lincoln Center, a quiet fashion presentation is taking place.  Womens Wear Daily has installed an exhibit featuring iconic looks from the last 100 years re-interpreted by today's hottest young designers.  Marilyn Monroe's iconic white subway dress, Bruce Springsteen's denim, Audrey Hepburn just to name a few.

Gilt.com will auction the one-of-a-kind looks at the end of the exhibit.  The exhibit runs until September 16th and is open to the public.

NY FASHION WEEK: Adam Lippes Spring 2011

Clean and pretty.  That seems to be what many of the better designers are striving for next Spring.  Adam Lippes' show on Saturday afternoon worked to express the juxtaposition of delicate lace and chiffon against structured pieces.

The designer used Charlotte Gainsbourg as a muse, inspired by her character in the film "The City of Your Final Destination."   The clothing showed meticulous attention to the details.  Embroidery, eyelet, tiny ruffles and a soft color palette defined the collection's overall focus.

The shoes were bolder and brighter.  Mostly wide strapped sandals with very tall heels.
