Yoana Baraschi Spring 2012

Did the freak snowstorm of the past week make you want to get away?  Yep, me too.  We only have another winter ahead of us to look forward to.  Yoana Baraschi showed cheerier pieces for her Spring 2012 collection.  The sunny prints looked great against the stormy sky outside.  The silhouettes were simple, but flattering and sexy.  Lightweight knits, ruched georgettes made it easy to throw them in a bag and escape.

Ms. Baraschi's signature embellishments were on display.  Sequins embroidered on necklines, intertwined in light lace and veiled under chiffon helped bring day looks into evening.  Metal beaded hems brought some edge to a simple dress.  Ornate thread embroidery added elegance to solid white or orange mini-dresses

NY Fashion Week: Yoana Baraschi Fall 2011

Designer Yoana Baraschi wants you to visit virtual reality.  Her Fall 2011 inspiration was a lot of high tech and 1970’s glam.    Bright graphic stripes were coordinated with abstract grid prints.  Colorblocking and layered patchwork techniques were a running theme.  The silhouettes included shift dresses, A-line skirts and cozy coats.

Ms. Baraschi’s upbringing was always surrounded by art.  She studied textiles and came from a family of artists.   This background was evident this season in the large scale digital prints with bright, modern colors.

NY FASHION WEEK: Yoana Baraschi Spring 2011

Yoana Baraschi held her presentation for the Spring 2011 collection yesterday in an intimate setting at Lincoln center.  The airy silhouettes used my favorite fabric prints of the season so far.  The patterns were feminine and fun.  The garments had a flirty quality about, with lots of ruffles and details.  

Retro influences were seen in many of the looks.  A trench coat a la Catherine Deneuve here, a 1970's tennis look there, even a few flapper references.

The lacy socks with platform sandals added a tongue-in-cheek look to the accessories. The vintage-look hats and hairpieces also gave the look of raiding Mom's closet, but with a little irony.
